Compostos de boratos de alum\u00ednio e \u00edtrio s\u00e3o materiais com alto modulo el\u00e1stico, alta tens\u00e3o de ruptura e baixo coeficiente de expans\u00e3o t\u00e9rmica, mas tamb\u00e9m possuem propriedades estruturais e \u00f3pticas adequadas para aplica\u00e7\u00f5es em dispositivos fot\u00f4nicos.
